20 years of commitment with the environment

Twenty years ago, the Association of Volunteers for Service at Protected Areas (or ASVO, its Spanish acronym) started active conservation efforts at national parks, beaches and communities in Costa Rica.

ASVO is a non-governmental, self-managed non-profit organization. We work as a bridge between the civil society and the protected areas, engaging people in responsible actions in the conservation of our natural and cultural heritage.

Our environmental problems, such as forest fires, deforestation, species extinction and climate change, among others, are happening right now. Because we are all responsible and we can all do something, ASVO is an open space for you to act.

We work in synergy with national and foreign volunteers, local communities, schools, high schools, universities, governmental institutions and other environmental organizations.

We have developed our volunteer programs in 30 different areas of the country and about 1,800 volunteers worldwide each year enable our efforts towards conservation.
