The increase in global temperatures and the disturbance of the hydrological cycle creates ideal conditions for the increase in desertification. One of the main effects of this phenomenon is the increase in forestal fires due to dry soils and vegetation.

For this reason, permanent volunteers of ASVO consider education to prevent and eradicat of such events as vitally important. Since 2007, ASVO is a member of the National Commission on Forest Fires and provides volunteers to work in this type of activities. Since then the Volunteer Forestal Fire Brigade (by its Spanish acronym BRIF) is formally constituted and has a team of trained volunteers.

It is important to mention that the Volunteer Forestal Firefighter has been a pillar for promoting civil society participation in the forest fire prevention.

Moreover, it is a way to be in contact with different groups of society and as they share their experiences with friends, family and coworkers, they spread and raise environmental awareness.

The BRIFE in Numbers:
• It has 30 brigades.
• Provides 2500 hours of service to wildlife areas.
• In the 2009 season the BRIEF participated in the Second National Meeting of Forestal Firefighter.
• We participate in the AmbientICE Fair promoting the National Fire Management Program.
