Recycling is one of the easiest and most powerful things you can do to go green and improve the planet. Just think

What you can do to make a difference:

  1. Recycle.  Take your paint, oil, chemicals to the recycling facilities in your city.   Recycle plastic & glass bottles and paper too.  Did you know it takes 1000 years for a plastic bottle to degrade?

  2. Do not litter.  Please pick up your trash (others too).   You can even pick up trash while walking your dog.  Tip:  Birds and many marine mammals mistake trash for food and when they eat it, it fills up their stomachs and they are not able to digest it, resulting in starvation (death).  Cigarette butts and plastic bags are a perfect example.  Also, trash pollutes our waterways, oceans, rivers, streams, etc.

  3. Do not feed wild birds or wild animals as human food does not have the same nutrients and it can kill them.  They also need to be able to fend for themselves in the wild.

  4. It takes concerned citizens to save our Wetlands.  Step in whenever possible to save our Wetlands so birds do not become extinct and have a place for food, water and shelter.

  5. Cleanup after your pet because there is bacteria in your pets waste that is not good for the oceans, rivers and waterways.  Also, reduce fertilizing.

Energy Conservation and other environmental tips:

To control pollution in the air that we all breathe, carbon emissions and the warming of our planet which affects wildlife, humans and the earth,  here are some simple ways to conserve:
  1.
Switch to compact fluorescent & energy efficient bulbs in your home and remember to turn off lights immediately when you walk out of a room.

  2. Unplug chargers when not in use as they account for 10% of your electric.

  3. Buy energy-efficient appliances and make your next car a fuel-efficient one.

  4. Ban leaf blowers.  Did you know a blower generates as much emissions in one hour as driving a car 350 miles?  Tell your neighbors and community associations.

  5. Recycle, Recycle, Recycle (plastic bottles, paper goods, newspapers, etc. ).

  6. Launch a mug movement.  Encourage coworkers to drink from reusable mugs and glass water bottles,  rather than plastic bottles or polystyrene cups (polystyrene does not dissolve and stays on our planet forever).

  7. Reuse grocery bags or bring your own bag instead of getting new ones each time you shop at the store.

  8. Conserve on Water.  Many states are having drought conditions.

  9. Employers:  Make Tuesdays a carpool day or work from Home day or designate 1 day week that works for your company to reduce traffic congestion and pollution.
