Since the creation of ASVO in 1989 we have been concerned by processes of natural resource conservation. By the late 90s a group of students of Biology from Universidad Nacional led the organization to start with a process of knowledge generation through the collection of scientific data. This kind of information is vital to understand the details needed for an adequate environmental management.
We are working to generate information in terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems. This data is considered essential for the environmental education and conservation.
Our main lines of research work are determined by:
- The Coastal Marine Resources Management Program has three different Sea Turtles Conservation Projects. The main objective of these Projects is to evaluate and protect marine turtle populations that nest in Costa Rica's Pacific beaches. We work with an interdisciplinary research team composed of biologists, oceanographers, natural resource managers and field assistants.
- Research and Projection Unit (UIP), is a group that generates and disseminates scientific information that contributes to the conservation of Protected Areas. They have their own projects or give assistance to already established projects. This Unit is composed by men and women volunteers interested in the generation of scientific knowledge for conservation purposes.
Coastal Marine Resources Management Our health depends on the health of our oceans. We work at several Sea Turtle Conservation Projects.
Research and Projection Unit Our commitment with conservation is the generation of knowledge. We work in protected Areas.
