There are indications that in the period just prior to the coming of the Spanish, this area was inhabited by indigenous groups. Piedras Blancas National Park, a new park, hides an experience rich in indigenous aspects, with little tourism, trails that are still in progress of construction and beautiful beaches.
The forest holds hundreds of species of plants, animals, and rare insects, together with snakes and other reptiles. There are waterfalls, winding rivers, and coral reefs. Nonetheless, its biodiversity is not fully known because the park has just come under study. It is considered by many to be the best place for bird-watching site in the country, because it is an important meeting place for birds from North and South America.
We work with Costa Rican and international volunteers in the conservation of the riches of this area. The volunteers maintain trails, clean and protect the camping areas. They maintain the infrastructure to support the labor of the officials responsible for the area. They also provide customer service and monitor the activities in the area.
