It has been almost two decades since the Asociación de Voluntarios para el servicio en las Areas Protegidas ASVO, or Volunteers at the service of protected areas Association, started contributing in the prevention and control of forest fires nationwide, working as a team with Comisión Nacional de Incendios Forestales (CONIFOR) or National Forest Fire Commission.

ASVO's RESOLUTION REGARDING THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR FOREST FIRES (CONIFOR)

On June 28th, 2006, the "National Strategy on Management of forest fires for Costa Rica 2006-2010" was officialized by means of Executive Decree N° 33108-MINAE, which was published in the official newspaper La Gaceta N° 124. The Decree constitutes the official established guideline relative to planning, control, monitor, and evaluation of forest fires in Costa Rica for the years 2006 through 2010.
